Flexible tanks for boats: fuel and clear water

A flexible tank (also called a bladder tank, or a fuel bladder when it carries fuel) is a watertight bag made of coated fabric that stores a liquid on board and flattens as it empties. Lighter and easier to fit than a rigid tank, it goes under a bench, in a locker or in the console of a RIB, and folds flat when not needed.

NAUTA® tanks are made of 935 dtex nylon fabric coated on both sides with a neoprene/nitrile compound. Their seams are reinforced and vulcanised to stay watertight.

Which flexible tank should I choose?

Clear water tanks are not approved for drinking water. Need a waste water tank or a large capacity, up to 1,500 litres? These models are available in the NAUTA® range: contact us for a quote.

Installing a flexible tank on board

• Place it on a flat, clean surface with no sharp edges or protruding screws, and wedge it so that it does not rub while under way.
• Fittings go on the upper half of the tank, never on the underside, at least 100 mm from the edges: the vent on the highest side, the draw-off on the lowest side.
• Check that the fittings are tight regularly, especially a few days after installation.
• For water, rinse the tank before first use and clean it every 6 months, hoses included.

Frequently asked questions

Can a flexible tank hold petrol?

Yes, NAUTA® fuel tanks are designed for petrol and diesel. Never use a water tank for fuel, or the other way round.

Can I drink the water from a NAUTA® flexible tank?

No. The clear water tanks sold here are not approved for drinking water: they are for the shower, taps, toilet and cleaning.

What is the delivery time?

Allow up to 5 weeks before dispatch, the time needed to make the tank.

Can I choose the fitting?

Yes for fuel tanks: several versions are available, including brass fittings. If you are unsure about compatibility with your engine, contact us.
