ABOUT THIS ITEM

The ORCA® Shark rubbing strake is an EPDM rubber rubrail glued along the tube of your RIB or tender. It takes the knocks and friction instead of the fabric: when coming alongside, against the pontoon, on the trailer. It is part of the ORCA® Rubrail range by Pennel & Flipo, the manufacturer of ORCA Hypalon fabrics.

Fitting a rubbing strake

  1. Measure the length of tube to be fitted on each side and add the two together.
  2. Remove the old strake if needed, then clean and degrease the tube, for example with New Magic.
  3. Bond it with ORCA® Glue neoprene adhesive mixed with RFE hardener, or with the glue + hardener kit, following the ORCA gluing guide (PDF, in French).
  4. Press firmly along the whole length and leave to dry before going afloat.

For the most exposed areas (front of the tube, diver entry points), add an ORCA® TECH 288 reinforcement sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Rubbing strake, rubrail, fender strip: what is the difference?

None: these words all mean the same rubber profile glued along the tube to protect it.

Is 16 metres enough for my boat?

Measure the length of tube to be fitted on each side and add them together. Above 16 m, order a second strake.

Which glue should I use to fit the strake?

With a two-part neoprene adhesive: ORCA® Glue and its RFE hardener, or the glue + hardener kit. PVC glues and "universal" glues are not suitable for Hypalon.

Can it be glued to a PVC tube?

It is designed for Hypalon (CSM/CR) tubes and is bonded with neoprene adhesive. For a PVC tube, contact us before ordering.

The whole range is in our rubbing strakes for RIBs collection.
